Dubai, the glittering metropolis where modernity meets luxury, is also a city where misplaced belongings are swiftly reunited with their owners.
From precious jewellery to important documents, Dubai Police are known for their quick and efficient recovery process.
If you’ve lost something valuable in this bustling city, the process to report and recover it has been streamlined for your convenience.
How to apply for a Lost Item Certificate
Should you find yourself in the unfortunate position of losing an item, the first step is to report it through the Dubai Police app. The app is available on both iOS and Android, offering a user-friendly interface for lost and found services.

To begin, open the app and select "Services" from the bottom menu. Scroll down to locate the 'Lost Certificate' option, which allows you to fill out the necessary details of your lost item. If you're a UAE resident, you’ll need to provide your Emirates ID number and email address. Visitors will need to enter their passport number, nationality, date of birth, and email address.
Next, specify the category of the lost item – such as jewellery, electronics, or documents – and include a description or image of the item, if possible. Once you enter the location and date of the loss, complete the captcha and submit the form.
Fees for the service
Obtaining a Lost Item Certificate involves a small service fee:
- Dh50 for the application service
- Dh20 for the knowledge and innovation fee
- Dh100 if you apply through Smart Police Stations (SPS)
Payments can be made easily via credit or debit card, and once processed, you will receive a transaction number to track the status of your lost item. The certificate itself will be sent to your email.
Processing time and recovery
There is no fixed timeline for the recovery of lost items, as the process depends on various factors such as the type of item, where it was lost, and its availability for retrieval. However, Dubai Police have been known to recover items as quickly as within 30 minutes, with some items being returned almost immediately after reporting.
While the online method through the Dubai Police app is the most convenient, individuals can also choose to report their lost items via Smart Police Stations or by calling the non-emergency Dubai Police hotline at 901 for further assistance.
What is a Lost Item Certificate?
A Lost Certificate is more than just a record of the loss; it serves as an official document acknowledging the missing item. It can be particularly useful for replacing important documents like passports, ID cards, or even for insurance claims. The certificate ensures the legal proof needed for reporting the item to authorities or institutions involved in the replacement process.
For those who have lost an item of significant value or importance, the certificate provides the necessary documentation to facilitate the item’s replacement or insurance claim. Additionally, it supports compliance with regulatory requirements for lost goods.
